Coordinate Studio

First-product setup guide

Start with one product. Follow it all the way to an SVG.

From product import to an operator-reviewed engraving file. You’ll work inside Shopify Admin—no API keys or separate Coordinate Studio login needed.

Before you start: have a clear photo, the physical engraving width and height in millimeters, and a Shopify theme that supports app blocks. Pick a product your team already engraves.

1. Install and choose a plan

  1. Open the Coordinate Studio listing and select Install. Select the store you want to connect.
  2. Review Shopify’s access request and pricing terms, then approve your chosen plan. Plans start at $39 USD every 30 days with a 14-day trial; additional export charges apply.
  3. Return to Coordinate Studio in Shopify Admin. In Plan and usage, select Refresh verified plan if the plan is not yet verified.
Install on Shopify

Check: your store name and the correct plan appear in the app. A trial or test plan is not proof of a collected charge.

2. Import one product

  1. In Products, search for the item you want customers to personalize.
  2. Select it, then choose Import selected products.
  3. Find the imported product in the calibration workspace. Check the variant names and source photos.

Check: the product is imported as a draft. Importing alone does not enable personalization for shoppers.

3. Align the preview and publish

  1. Choose the material, engraving templates, and correct product photo for each active variant.
  2. Enter the measured engraving width, height, and safe margins in millimeters. Do not estimate physical dimensions from a photo.
  3. Move and size the engraving overlay to the actual engravable face. Check its alignment against the physical item.
  4. Select Save calibration, inspect it, then select Approve render. Repeat for every active variant.
  5. When all readiness checks pass, select Publish product.

Check: the product is published and the right photo and engraving area appear for each variant. Editing an approved calibration can return a product to draft for review.

4. Enable the storefront designer

  1. Use Open theme editor in Coordinate Studio.
  2. Open the product template used by your selected product. In the product information area, add the Coordinate Studio app block.
  3. Place it where shoppers can personalize before buying, then Save the theme.
  4. Open the actual product page. Check that the designer appears on desktop and mobile, and that unrelated products retain their normal purchase flow.

Manual check: opening the editor is not proof that the block is saved on the correct template. The app deliberately leaves this setup step marked “Manual check.”

Use a duplicate or preview theme while testing if changing the live template could affect customers. Do not replace unrelated product templates.

5. Follow one approved design through checkout

  1. Open the published product and choose the intended variant.
  2. Use a public landmark or synthetic location. Choose the text and template, inspect the safe area, and approve the preview.
  3. Add it to cart. Confirm the real variant and personalization stay together.
  4. In a development or test store, complete checkout using Shopify’s supported test method. On a live store, coordinate a test with the owner first; do not change payment settings or create an unapproved charge.

Check: the approved design is attached to the correct Shopify order. An abandoned or unpaid checkout must not create a production-ready job.

6. Review and download the SVG

  1. Return to Orders & production. If the paid order is delayed, select Refresh queue.
  2. Review the saved, customer-approved design. Move the job to Ready.
  3. Select Generate private SVG, then Download SVG.
  4. Open it in your production software. Check physical dimensions, text, location, margins, and material settings before engraving.
  5. Move the job through engraving and quality control. Use Pass quality control only after the physical result passes your checks.

Check: the SVG matches the approved order. Coordinate Studio prepares files; it does not operate or certify your laser.

If something doesn’t look right

The wrong photo appears for a variant

Check the variant’s image in Shopify, re-import the selected product, and choose the correct image in calibration. Recheck and approve the render before publishing.

The engraving is too high, too low, or too large

Adjust the overlay’s position, width, height, and rotation against the product photo. Keep the physical millimeter measurements tied to the real item. Save and approve the revised render.

The designer is missing from the product page

Confirm that the product is published in Coordinate Studio, personalization is not paused, and the saved app block is on the product’s actual template. Check the selected variant too.

The plan or production queue is not up to date

Use Refresh verified plan or Refresh queue. If verification fails, keep the design unchanged and contact support. Repeatedly generating an export is not a billing or order-recovery method.

I need to pause new personalized orders

Select Pause personalization in the app. The ordinary Shopify product and cart remain available. Resume when production capacity is ready; review any existing paid jobs separately.

Get setup help or read the merchant FAQ. Include the store domain, product name, and step that failed. Do not email API keys, payment details, or customers’ private locations.
